• Brewton & Barmuda, Newton | Yii Eats

P and I have been craving cronuts since both our instagrams have been constantly spammed by all the foodporn. Since we walk extreme amounts every time we go out, this time was no exception. The walk from Central is around 30 minutes. But knowing us, we obviously had to over-walk it...
By the time we got there it was well into brunch and the line went way onto the streets. Not wanting to wait too long, we decided to get takeaway cronuts and eat elsewhere.

I got an order from the fambam to buy some for them to try, so P & I shared 2 (glazed and chocolate crumble). Costing $4-$4.50 each, it is quite pricey, but it's worth it for an experience (I guess). These six cost $29 all together.

We tried the glazed cronut straightaway. Whilst it did taste good, it reminded me a lot of the original glazed Krispy Kreme. Even though we ate it straight away after buying, the paper bag they served it in already had these oil patches all over it. After eating it, my fingers were all covered in oil - thankfully I always have tissues!

After downing a cronut, we decided to give Barmuda a try. Situated next to Black Star it's rather cosy and always bustling with action.

Since I already had a coffee before I left the house, we both opted for frappes. We got a mango and ginger one and a pineapple mint one. They don't have an online menu and I don't have the receipt so don't trust me on names. Based on experience, neither P or I were expecting a strong ginger taste, so we were pleasantly surprised by the shocks of ginger in each sip.
On the other hand, the mint and pineapple was slightly disappointing, due the excessive foam (?) at the top. However, after making pineapple juice at home, I realised that this foam is something created from the pineapple....

Wanting something different from the stereotypical cafe food of eggs and more eggs, we opted for the Marinated Lamb Salad ($18.70). Being the lover of strong flavours, the lamb was very satisfactory for me. However, I'm not a big fan of cheese, so the sheep's fetta wasn't my type of food.

But then again, it's no brunch without eggs, so the Potato Stack ($16.50) was the perfect decision. Whilst it was all pretty balanced, having had the lamb salad, this was rather bland. The tomato relish made ti better, so I just wish there was more of it.
